Molasses

Molasses is a syrupy liquid obtained from the cooked mess of sugar cane/sugar beet after removal of the crystallized sugar.

Thanks to its fermenting properties, the alcohol producing sector is an important market for molasses. In animal feed, molasses is used as binding agent in the drying and compression of beet pulp.

In the fermentation industry, fermentable sugars such as molasses are an essential raw material. The molasses of Suiker Unie are used for the production of (baking) yeast, citric acid, yeast extracts and bioethanol.
